Board of Directors

The Center for the Study of Black Membership Organizations seeks members of its founding Board of Directors, including the officers typical of Boards: A Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. Members of the Board of Directors will be the chief fundraisers and way-makers of the organization, ensuring that the Center has the resources it needs to fulfill its mission and vision. Directors should be excited about the prospect of building a body that illuminates the culture and deeds of organizations performing service and justice work in a social way.

Prospective members of the Board of Directors should expect to take a leadership role meeting the organization’s annual budgetary goals and in recruiting and training additional board members.

Advisory Board

The Center for the Study of Black Membership Organizations is in search of professional historians, history professors, archivists, and librarians to join our advisory board. We anticipate the commitment to be no more than one hour a month, with one annual meeting to obtain feedback and gain advice on the programming and practices of the center.

Volunteer Writers

The Center for the Study of Black Membership Organizations seeks volunteer writers to assist with the transformation of BlackOrgs.net from a directory to an encyclopedia. Each organization listed should have either a full article or a stub documenting its history.

Volunteers who might be ideal for this task might be undergraduate or graduate history students working in tandem with their institutions for credit, or historians of BMOs looking to contribute to the body of study of these organizations. All volunteers will be considered.
